P0365 Camshaft Position Sensor “B” Circuit (Bank 1)

Technical Description

Camshaft Position Sensor "B" Circuit Bank 1

What does that mean?

This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code. It is considered generic because it applies to all makes and models of vehicles (1996-newer), although specific repair steps may be slightly different depending on the model. So this engine code article applies to BMW, Toyota, Subaru, Honda, Hyundai, Dodge, Kia, Mistubishi, Lexus, etc.

This P0365 code indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit .

Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit – the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don’t just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.

Symptoms

Symptoms can include:

  • Hard starting or no start
  • Rough running / misfiring
  • Loss of engine power
  • Check engine light on
  • Causes

A code P0365 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

  • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
  • the camshaft position sensor may have failed
  • the PCM may have failed
  • there exists an open circuit
  • the crankshaft position sensor may have failed
  • Possible Solutions

  • Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the "B" circuit
  • Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
  • Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
  • Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
  • Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
  • Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required

"Delete Error Code Permanently, Disable DTC Error Code Function for p0365 in the ECU"

In extreme cases, we even have the option to permanently remove the specific DTC p0365 and disable the function of the specific error code in the ECU. All other fault code functions will then continue to work to protect the engine. This is different from clearing an error code with a diagnostic device. We have the option to permanently remove the function of the specific error code, so that it never comes back. Also emergency running that occurs on the specific error code can be solved in most cases.

Of course we prefer to first try to solve the cause of the error code, but sometimes the only solution is to permanently disable the DTC function of p0365.
